Spicy Steak Sandwich

Ingredients

The Steak

  • 250 g fast fry steak tenderized
  • 1/4 cup steak spice
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil

The Vegetables

  • 1/4 cup mushroom sliced thin
  • 1/4 cup green pepper sliced thin
  • 1 tbsp sriracha
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Other Stuff

  • 1/4 cup roasted red pepper sliced thin
  • 1/4 cup marinaded artichoke hearts sliced thin
  • 2-4 slices havarti cheese jalapeno or habanero flavour
  • 4 slices bread thick cut, toasted in a grill pan

The Aioli

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tsp prepared horseradish
  • 1 tsp chopped garlic
  • 1/4 tsp dijon mustard
  • 1/4 tsp balsamic vinegar

Instructions

The Vegetables

  • Combine all the vegetable and marinade ingredients in a bowl. Make sure to mix thoroughly to fully coat everything. Cover and set aside to marinate briefly
  • In a small skillet heat some vegetable oil on medium-high, once shimmering add the vegetables and stir fry for 4-5 minutes until the liquid has almost evaporated. Remove the vegetables from the pan and set aside

The Aioli

  • Whisk together all the aioli ingredients in a small bowl, cover and refrigerate

The Steak

  • Slice the steak into pieces roughly the size of the bread. Coat with steak spice and set aside.
  • In a large skillet heat the vegetable oil on medium high, once shimmering melt in the butter, then add the steak to the pan. Fry until browned on both sides, 5-6 minutes, flipping half way through.

Assembly

  • Turn on the broiler, add 2 pieces of bread to a cooking pan and build the sandwiches. Bottom to top: steak, vegetables, roasted red peppers and artichokes, cheese
  • Broil the sandwiches open face for 1-2 minutes or until the cheese gets gooey.
  • While the cheese is broiling spread the aioli on the top bread pieces
  • Top the sandwiches, cut in half and serve.
