Tempeh Bacon

Ingredients

  • 250 g tempeh
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp hot sauce I used Franks
  • 4 tsp liquid smoke
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  • slice the tempeh super thin, but not so thin that it breaks apart- about 1/8 inch
  • add 1tbsp soy sauce, the olive oil, syrup, hot sauce, 2tsp liquid smoke, paprika, cumin and pepper to a ziplock back with the tempeh. Press out all the air, seal and massage to coat the bacon with the marinade. Allow to marinade at room temperature for at least 10 minutes
  • Heat more olive oil in a large pan on medium-high heat. Add the tempeh, remaining soy sauce, liquid smoke and season with salt and cook until crisp and dark- 10-15 minutes.
